Orbit partnered with katto to create an identity system capable of supporting a constantly evolving exhibition program while maintaining a recognizable presence within New York’s cultural landscape. The challenge was to design a visual language flexible enough to shift between artists and exhibitions without losing consistency over time. The project combined identity design, creative strategy, and digital applications into a modular system built around movement, rhythm, and controlled variation.

The gallery operates through constant change. Exhibitions rotate, visual material evolves, and each artist introduces a new atmosphere into the space. Rather than creating a fixed identity, the challenge became designing a structure capable of adapting continuously. Research explored editorial systems, gallery publications, and institutions operating across both physical and digital environments. The focus was understanding how flexibility can exist without losing clarity. This phase established movement as the central concept—not animation itself, but movement through structure and shifting composition.

The identity system was built around a restrained typographic language combined with a dynamic grid structure. Instead of relying on expressive graphic elements, subtle shifts in composition create variation across applications. Typography was designed to remain confident and minimal. Layout systems expand and contract depending on content, allowing exhibitions to establish their own tone without disrupting consistency. The result is a system that behaves more like a framework than a static identity.

Applications extend across invitations, exhibition graphics, digital platforms, posters, and printed materials. Every touchpoint follows the same structural logic while allowing controlled variation. The design intentionally avoids visual dominance. Instead, the identity creates space around exhibitions rather than competing with them. This approach allows Orbit itself to remain recognizable while supporting continuous change.

Visual language references contemporary publishing and institutional systems rather than commercial gallery branding. Composition, spacing, and hierarchy became stronger tools than visual decoration. Photography and exhibition materials were treated as changing content layers inside a larger structure. This established a visual rhythm capable of evolving naturally over time.

The result is a flexible and contemporary identity system designed around movement and adaptability. Orbit gains a structure capable of evolving alongside exhibitions while maintaining clarity and consistency. The identity creates recognition without becoming restrictive, allowing the gallery to continuously reinvent itself.
